This pack includes two bur oak and two swamp chestnut oak, these are both hardy North American oaks known for producing large, sweet acorns that wildlife love.
These fast-growing trees are well adapted to many soil types and make excellent additions to hunting properties, field edges, and naturalized landscapes. Fruit: Swamp Chestnut Oak – 3/4 – 1 1/2″ acorns that are low in tannins and sweet. Growing in clusters or alone. Bur Oak – 1/2 to 2 inches long acorns, fuzzy, in deep brown hairy cups, annually, kernels are white & sweet.
Flowers: Swamp Chestnut Oak and Bur Oak – Yellow catkins are male flowers; female flowers are yellow spikes.
Growth Rate: Slow
Soil: Bur Oak and Swamp Chestnut Oak tolerate a wide range of soils but prefers moist soils that are well drained.
Drought Tolerance: Poor
Flood Tolerance: Low to moderate; prefers well-drained sites
Sun Requirements: Full sun for best nut production
Fall Color: Swamp Chestnut Oak – Vibrant ranging from red to oranges and yellows. Bur Oak – Yellow
