Red mulberry trees produce dark purple berries that are one inch long and are edible. The berries are similar to a blackberry. The red mulberry tree is a great food resource for mammals and birds.

Description

Red Mulberry is one of the best trees for game food. Many years ago, when Molly was about 6 years old, we stopped to see an old friend. He has a large mulberry, in a cage in his yard. We put Molly in the cage for an hour and after binging on mulberries she came out with purple all over her face. If I can find the photo I will upload it. The USDA has an interesting article on mulberry. Other native fruit we have.
