Description
Striped Maple Tree or moose wood is a native Michigan understory tree. It is also called goosefoot maple due to the leaves being shaped like a goose foot! The Striped Maple is found in Michigan along the west side of the lower peninsula within 10 miles of lake Michigan. It will grow pretty much anywhere in the Midwest given partial shade and moisture. We had a 20 foot tall striped Maple that Molly wanted for her back yard but was inadvertently sold to a landscaper with a group of trees! I am now saving her a 12″ moose wood for her and when I am about 100 years old it will be about 20 ft tall.
There is a large Striped Maple Tree back in one of the deep valleys of the farm. I will try to get a photo of it when the snow melts off. Here is some good info from Adirondack Forever Wild.
