Quaking Aspen is a deciduous tree known for its smooth white bark and leaves that “quake” or tremble in the slightest breeze.

Description

Quaking Aspen has the largest range of all hardwoods in the US. It is a short lived and smaller tree than the Big Toothed Aspen. The Trembling Aspen has an almost white, Birch-like bark when young and smaller toothed leaves than the big tooth.

This tree is probably the most widespread tree in North America, even beats out Red Maple. This is the poplar that sustains millions of deer in winter, the buds on the young trees are their main diet.

Quaking Aspen are mainly found on dryer, upland soils but will grow fine on wetter soils also.

Some of the more common names are popple, white poplar, Trembling Aspen, poplar and Golden Aspen.
