Fruit: Small nutlets borne in cone-like catkins, not ornamental
Flowers: Male catkins (long, pendulous) and smaller female catkins

Soil: Moist, well-drained soil; prefers slightly acidic conditions
Drought Tolerance: Low – needs consistent moisture
Flood Tolerance: Low – does not tolerate standing water
