Description
Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii) is a woody shrub that can grow eight to ten feet tall or taller, though in cooler regions it often dies back to the ground in the winter. It’s a super easy to grow shrub that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies by the million with its large, fragrant flowers. It is known as a summer lilac.
Butterfly Bush is also resistant to deer, salt, drought, heat, and humidity, making it a crowd pleasing, easy-going shrub for any gardener. Butterfly bush respond best to spring pruning. They can be cut back to 1-2′ above ground level.
Buddleia davidii is originally native to Tibet and south-central China.
