ACER BUERGERIANUM (Trident Maple) 20'25'  zone 5   Well known and valued for its decorative exfoliating bark and strikingly brilliant fall color. Attractive medium sized patio or street tree. Tolerant of pollution, smoke, dust and some drought.
 
ACER CAUDATUM (Arahaga Maple) To 25' zone 4 Small tree native to Manchuria. Can handle very wet to dry soils. Young branches orange,red and gray. Yellow leaves in fall.
 
ACER GRISEUM (Paperbark Maple) 20'-40' zone 5  Outstanding medium specimen tree. Beautiful exfoliating cinnamon brown bark provides year round interest especially in the winter when the snow really shows off the bark. Vibrant fall foliage color provides a focal point in the landscape. A "must" for any maple lover. It's a slow grower so have patience with it.
 
ACER PALMATUM 'ATROPURPUREUM' (Red leafed Japanese Maple) 15-20' zone 5 Red leafed strain is an exceptional beauty in any landscape plan. This is the 'bloodgood' variety.

BETULA MAXIMOWICZIANA (Monarch Birch) 50'-75' zone 5 A lovely Birch with large dark green leaves which turn gold in fall. Bark matures to a light grey-white. Native only in the Kiril Islands near Russia.
 
BETULA PLATTYPHYLA (Japanese White Birch) 60' Zone 2 Pure white bark without the characteristic black fissures at the base that develop with age in other White Birch.
 
BETULA PENDULA 'youngii' (Young's Weeping Birch) 15'-20' zone 3 An irregular shaped tree with slender pendulous branches but lacking a central leader. Does best in moist but well drained soils. Has the typical white exfoliating bark of the other white birches. An attractive weeping tree for the small yard or as a specimen.
 
BETULA POPULIFOLIA (Whitespire) 30'-40' zone 4 Introduced in 1983 by Ed Hasselkus of the university of Wis. A white barked birch that is considered to be resistant to bronze birch borer. Chalk white bark does not exfoliate.
 
BETULA 'Crimson Frost' Z 4-7 H 30'xW 20' Crimson Frost has striking reddish-purple leaf color all summer and attractive cinnamon brown exfoliating bark.
 
CARAGANA ARBORESCENS (Walker Weeping Caragana) Finely cut foliage gives it a fern like appearence, much like a hippy haircut of the 60's.
 
CATALPA Z4-7 H55' A fast growing tree. One of the few flowering trees to bloom in June.

POPULUS (Souixland) 60'-80' zone 3 A superior cottonless cottonwood. Pyramidal, very fast growing shade tree. 4'-5' a year not uncommon growth in good soil.
 
POPULUS (robusta) 60' Z3 Cottonless cottonwood, fast grower suitable for dry locations.
 
Quaking Aspen  50' Z2 A beautiful fast growing tree that is cold hardy. Sometimes I mistake the sound of their rustling leaves for rain falling. Brilliant yellow fall color.
 
QUERCUS PALUSTRIS (Pin Oak) 75' zone 4 A native tree adapted to sandy soils but will tolerate heavier soils. Red fall colors can be spectacular.
 
QUERCUS RUBRA (Red Oak) 60'-80' zone 4 Fastest grower of the oaks. Bark on young trees reminds me of white pine. Very few oaks occur naturally in our area
 
QUERCUS ROBUR (English Oak) 100' zone 4 Beautiful tree. Check out the dainty rounded leaves.
 
REDBUD zone 4 30' A beautiful flowering small tree.
